Cellulite is one of the most embarrassing things to happen. Though cellulite can be brought under check, it may not be possible to prevent it. It is necessary though to control some changes in the diet as well as lifestyle.

We are all familiar with the appearance of cellulite. It resembles orange skin, or you could see something like the surface of cottage cheese. It appears mainly on the hips, buttocks or the abdomen.

Cellulite is seen more in women than in men. To correct the myth, cellulite is not a skin disorder that needs medical attention. It is the effect of fat being accumulated just under the epidermis, or outer skin, which shows up in mild to extreme form.

Why does cellulites appear ?

During the years when a girl is entering puberty, there are a lot of hormonal changes which take place in her body. One of these changes is the formation of a fat layer on the innermost layer of skin, called the subcutaneous fat layer. Thus cellulite does not get any importance till a few years before a girl has attained puberty.

There is a pattern in which this layer is formed, the purpose of which is to store fat. This pattern for women is nearly like the letter “X”. This pattern translates into a dimpling effect, where the skin is somewhat indented. Since these layers store fat, it begins to bulge. For men, on the contrary, the patterns are in the form of a column, which does not show up too much, even if there is fat accumulation.

When fat is stored within normal limits, it does not show up in bulges, since there is a lot of space for fat to spread out. Every woman has an inclination to stack up cellulite, with the deposit of fat.

How to treat cellulite

One of the easiest ways is to cover up the area. But for how long can a woman remain in long pants ? so what happens is that the woman lands up spending immense amount of money trying out various ways to get rid of cellulite. Yet, a natural therapy exists to treat cellulite. Here there is no use of herbs or balms to rub, but the truth lies in proper diet and exercise. The only way to hide cellulites is to reduce the size of the fat cells tucked beneath the subcutaneous layer so that the bulges become invisible.

Yet the people who market products for the reduction of cellulite with a plethora of treatment creams, lotions, wraps, pills and other methods talk about a diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein which is easy on sodium and saturated fat. If you can mix a regular exercise program with a health and balanced diet, the prevalence of this embarrassing skin ailment may considerably be reduced or brought under control, in a few months, depending of the intensity of cellulite on your body. Concentrate on areas which are heavy on cellulite and do exercises like walking or biking.

Massage is also considered to be  very effective as the motions involved in the massaging, helps in breaking down the fat deposited under the skin.
